Art in iTunes

So I designed this album art for a really talented friend of mine, Jennifer Sullivan, and it released on iTunes this week! Super cool, even though it's my worst work yet. But she looks gorgeous and the EP is fantastic. Everyone buy it here, if you like Norah Jones and Fiona Apple.

American Glamor?

I've recently become obsessed with the style of paparazzi photos. The spontaneity, their rough quality; I find the way in which they're captured fascinating, as well. Obtrusive, uninvited photographers capture people at their most vulnerable. CSS Lewis once said somewhere, "If someone is caught off guard they're true soul is shown." Or, you know. Something like that.

This photo is of Mischa Barton, someone I have never actually seen act or sing or dance in any capacity whatsoever. I don't care about her. The photo, however, is stunning. It's actually a paparazzi shot I gave a quickie edit to reveal the composition. Mischa is now kind of a fatso, which makes this even more interesting; her golden moments are gone.

If only I had been there to watch her glow fade!

Nasty, naughty girl

Took this at a barber shop on South 1st. The barber said he hadn't a woman in panties inside his store in fifty years...

It's best viewed with the Suntones playing in the background.

Armani Exchange Campaign: Um, yes.

Suffice it to say A|X is not my kind of brand. My style is more, oh, Madonna ex-husband meets "cool dad with tech job" combined with a touch of 2020 pop star. A|X is, quite simply, for tools.

However, their new ad campaign is great. I mean, the images are shot beautifully--the female lead is particularly striking--but the final shot, located just above, is the most memorable. (For obvious reasons.) So I applaud the art direction here. Racy advertising isn't limited to Gossip Girl, DSquared and Calvin Klein. A high-end douchey brand offshoot like A|X can be trashy, too!

still busy...site coming...

I'm not usually super self-congratulatory...but I have no choice in this matter.

My new shots with Leslie are out. of. control.

She's phenomenal, and while I won't pretend it's not a ton of work and skill on my part, our close relationship is a great assist in getting that unforgettable shot.

Britney Spears' "Circus" Vid=Symbolically Meaningful?

This screen capture from Britney's "Circus" video is a beautiful emotional statement. It's about strength, and courage, and defiance. None of these things describe Britney Spears, but I love this image and I wanted to post it.

Almost like Annie Leibovitz' Vogue shoot for Baz Luhrman's failed "epic," Australia. Oh my god, does a "failed epic" also equal an epic fail??

New shoots!

Love Julia. More shots at The Visualist.

Bringing it

Catrinel Menghia is a model I've never heard about. She's not even listed on Models.com, which is so odd considering her strong portfolio. Her work is dated, but when she hits it, it hurts so good. As a photographer, you know you've gotten a great shot when your model lets her emotions go. These are the select few images of Menghia I feel best represent that concept.

Above: This is the strongest image in her portfolio. It inspires me.

Above: This image is teetering on straight-up skank, but her face saves it. It's well-shot.

Glimpse Into The Future

My new friend Julia modeled in Houston before New York agencies decided her features were "too strong." As evidenced by the shots above, there's no such thing as "too strong." I just hope
I can fit enough shoots in before she pops up in V magazine.

Mad Style: Michael Kenna

This photographer is my new favorite. This is a series entitled "Silent World." What's so great about Kenna--besides his otherworldly ability to form comprehensible geometry from the shapes of nature--is his seamless transitions into commercial photography. I sincerely admire any photographer who can accomplish that feat.

Inspirations, 9.16.08

The last twenty-four hours have been some of the most inspiring of my entire life. I'm so completely satisfied with everything in life all of a sudden. Messed. Up.

Last night I met The Hives, waved at Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore, and saw Ratatat with a pair of fresh friends. I woke up at my friend's apartment this morning and, for some reason, waking up away from the comfort of your home is comforting in itself.

[Before I move onto the inspirations, a music update: Colby O'Donis is an embarrassment to the music industry and needs to drop himself. Like, now. Andre 3000's rap in "Green Light" by John Legend is worth the purchase alone. Lastly, "I Told You So" by Solange only gets better with time.]

Daria Werebowy, photographed by David Sims in the current issue of Vogue.

Raquel Zimmerman, arguably the most important model of 2008 on the face of this earth. Again, David Sims, a photographer with such a grace the models appear as still-life.

Hedi Slimane, a photographer truly lucky with the camera, took this stunning shot of Sasha Pivova--oops, I mean Heidi Mount--in last month's V (with Gisele on the cover). This shot is just...beyond the brink.

Mad Style: Nature

There's something unspeakably beautiful about Texas wilderness. It's unique to central Texas, and tends to put everything in perspective. How does that work?

She's gonna be huge

This is Leslie Davidson, one of my best friends. She's definitely on her way to becoming a model, as the recent Facebook album of pictures I took of her this weekend will prove.

Clearly, I had a great weekend.

Post on Kerli and Beck forthcoming.

"You comprendo english?"

So, Barcelona (or "The Barce" as Bo and I have come to calling it) is amazing. Duh. But it's getting better and better every hour--because so few people speak English and the lifestyle is so dramatically different from that of the U.S. it takes a good while to get oriented.

The people are friendly, but not as much as Paris, in my opinion. I suppose that's simply my assumption because so few can respond in English. I'm getting along well speaking Spanish, however. I'm heading off now to see some of Gaudi's work around the city. Here are some pictures of yesterday.

These are all pics Bo and I think are "ballin'."
